This post starts the next section of Jack’s book, “Build Your Success Team.”
In the beginning, most entrepreneurs do everything themselves. It doesn’t matter whether they are good at a task or like doing all the necessary tasks; things need to be done and they do them. Financially they may not be ready to take on the extra help in the beginning. In time, however, there needs to be a delegation of tasks that are not part of your core genius. When you begin to stay focused on what you love and are passionate about, you gain more momentum toward your goals.
Web design is not at my core genius. I would rather spend my energy on the content of the website, not the designing and maintaining of it. Because it isn’t a core value, I have neglected and pushed off getting my website up and running. When you are not passionate about something, you have the tendency to delay those tasks. The only reason I haven’t delegated that task out is money. As I continue to build my business, I will be delegating the tasks that others enjoy doing and that I don’t. The goal is to free up as much time as possible to do what you love the most.
When you do delegate something to someone else, you need to do so completely. Give the person total control of the task with your CLEAR expectations. Once you have established your expectations, be sure the person knows that if they don’t meet your expectations, there will be a warning so they have the opportunity to do it as expected. If they continue to not meet expectations, the relationship is done and you will find a replacement. The key is to move past having to have your fingers in everything, and by giving clear expectations, you can let go.
You will find yourself being more successful when you are focused on what you love to do, your core genius. If your time is worth $150 an hour and lawn service is $50 and it takes you 3 hours to complete the task, by delegating it out you essentially just made an extra $400 that week. Over a period of 20 weeks that is an extra $8,000. So why are you still taking care of the lawn?
What do you need to delegate out to someone else so you can stay focused on your goals?

I would highly recommend that you buy a copy of the book and join us on a journey to a better you.)

You’ve stated this very clearly and effectively Greg and you’re right, both of our blogs today were on the same thought plane. That’s clearly an indication of how much we share in our beliefs and experience. Nicely done.
